First Fruits Coffee: Thageini Coffee Selections from Nyeri County

Experience the distinctive taste of Kenyan coffee with First Fruits Coffee’s Thageini Selections, sourced directly from the revered Thageini washing station in Nyeri County. Known for its slow-growing, extra-hard beans, Nyeri County produces coffees brimming with flavor and character, making it a prized region for coffee connoisseurs.

Since  2017, Project Prigin has been collaborating with the Thageini washing station to bring you a diverse array of coffee types including washed, natural, peaberry, and our exclusive CM Selections. The dedication of the local team to maintaining high-quality standards is evident in every cup.

A Commitment to Excellence and Community
Thageini mill, operated by the Aguthi Farmer’s Co-operative Society, stands as a pillar of the coffee community in Nyeri County. It supports a substantial number of the society’s members, including 350 men and 100 women, contributing to the society’s overall membership of 2000. These producers are the backbone of the mill’s operations, overseeing the meticulous process of wet milling and drying that leads to the exceptional quality of our coffee.

After processing at Thageini, the coffee parchment or dried cherry pods are carefully transported to the Sagana Coffee dry mill. Here, they undergo de-hulling, grading, and meticulous preparation for export, ensuring that only the best quality coffee reaches your cup.

How we roast

Over a lengthy 3-year process, we designed and perfected a new way to roast coffee. We fully develop the coffee while keeping the roast before first crack. The chemical reactions that normally occur later in the roast cycle, we have been able to stimulate earlier while keeping the roast prolife very light.This coffee will age incredibly well and we have age tested coffee up to 2 years old with exceptional results. We have a passion for coffee and love sharing it with you.
